This is the Statt Mann Baby. Time to Scatt a little bit…
In my old age I’ve settled on becoming a fan of drivers forgetting my life long professional commitment to objectivity.
I’ve been a long-time fan of Chris Dyson, the 2021 Trans Am champion, a title won after a dominating year of seven wins in the season’s first ten races.
I consider Chris a friend after several years of personal texts, emails and phone conversations. We’ve shared comments on people things, personal things, and political things. We’ve even shared a laugh or two about our children.
In his pre-Trans Am days I drove from Los Angeles to the Bull Ring track in Ventura to see Chris race a midget car on dirt. It seemed an anomaly for an ALMS champion to race on a dirt track but we both appreciated and enjoyed the effort.
I’m super glad he won the Trans Am title this year after remembering how the Trans Am competitors treated Chris when he first showed up in 2017.
Glad too he’s coming back for another go at them next year. I’ll be a fan then, too.
Peace.
