An interview on the NHRA website remind us of what’s missing from the major leagues of drag racing. Rick Hendrick is a NASCAR team owner and an iconic name in motor sports.

The chat was only a couple minutes but at the core was the value of pro stock personality Greg Anderson to Rick Hendrick’s business selling cars. The entire chat mentioned nothing about pro stock times or pro stock speeds.

Let me hammer this nail again. It’s the personalities that will sell a sport.

Personalities will convince fans it matters who wins and loses a race. Tony Stewart and Rick Hendrick know drag racing’s value in TV Shows. In selling tickets. And in selling products.

The top qualifiers in Charlotte this weekend: Justin Ashley, John Force, and Erica Enders. They all have stories that will out sell speeds and horsepower. Rick Hendrick and Tony Stewart have learned that.

You wonder why it’s a problem for the NHRA leadership in Glendora.
