This is the Statt Mann Baby!! Time to Scatt a little bit.
A kid maybe 12-years-old stood on network TV this afternoon to shout that his Detroit Lions were “Number One” despite a season of evidence to the contrary.
Still, that’s the definition of fan.
I bring this up because earlier this week there was a report that investors in California’s Central Valley want to build a NASCAR-styled racetrack in Tulare on farmland about halfway between Bakersfield and Fresno.
Building anything NASCAR-centric might be optimistic for the next few years! Even NASCAR this week backed out of a deal that eventually could have seen a track in New York City, the top media center in the world.
Tulare and its inexpensive farmland isn’t a media center but it is within two or three hours of nearly forty million people. If you believe NASCAR, that’s maybe ten million of its fans. If you believe NASCAR!
If those fans exist, maybe they have a young boy’s enthusiasm and eventually will stand in line to buy $100 seats and ten dollar beer to watch a race that NASCAR isn’t interested in sending to Tulare. Ask the fans in Kentucky how all that’s working out so far.
Peace.
