This is the Statt Mann Baby. Time to Scatt a little bit.
This afternoon I stumbled onto a Nitro Rallycross show on NBC Sports. It was truly a show aimed at a specific audience like all good television.
Nitro Rallycross is a dream of Travis Pastrana who helped build himself and Nitro Circus into successful brands. Now he’s pouring the same effort into rallycross.
Other attempts at American rallycross were smothered in greed, stupidity, and failure. They sold names and personalities instead of entertainment and, frankly, a good time.
Nitro Rallycross has electric cars crashing into each other and the walls. There’s dirt flying. Drones zoom around. There’s everything, everywhere all at once.
It’s selling a good time to an audience. Travis knows how because for the last 14 years he’s sold tickets to a good time and the audience has loved it.
Not enough motorsports promoters have experience selling tickets these days.
The only strange thing about the show was Travis NOT in a Red Bull uniform. But I’ll get used to that.
Peace.
