This is the Statt Mann Baby!! Time to Scatt a little bit.
When no one was looking, the NHRA Sport Compact drag racing series found some muscle.
The sport struggled for several years after series OG's like Adam Saruwatari, Steph Papadakis, Abel Ibarra, Lisa Kubo and others went somewhere else and no one knew their replacements.
Now, and more important, the racing itself has a new face and attitude.
When the Sport Compact drag racing boom exploded everyone was concentrating on RWD and V8 power.
But the V8-powered, mini Pro Stock formula was challenged and the V8s eventually were outlawed.
Then the racers thought: “Why not concentrate on our strength: FWD, power adders and computer technology just like the cars in new car showrooms.”
Hence, the RWD class only had three cars this weekend in Englishtown. The FWD cars answered with six, a flip flop. Even more to the point, all the FWD cars qualified faster than one of the three RWD cars!
Unheard of even last season!
With this new attitude and the sideline money grabbers out of the way, Tuner drag racing can flourish and become the future everyone expected in the first place.
Peace.
