This is the Statt Mann Baby. Time to Scatt a little bit.
This Noah Gragson story in NASCAR is troubling. These kinds of headlines show up every season.
We’ve had racial slurs, nooses, now social media likes clicked for racially insensitive graphics.
Drivers, like everyone else, can think whatever they want. But you wonder why they can’t do their off brand thinking through burner accounts in social media.
As for Gragson, he’s been suspended indefinitely by Legacy Motorsports.
That’s a team that grew out of Richard Petty and is currently owned in part by Jimmie Johnson. Petty and Johnson both are seven-time champions and two of the biggest names in NASCAR history.
On top of everything the team has plans to switch from Chevrolet to Toyota next year. And you can bet the last thing any sponsor wants is pickets and TV crews outside their headquarters because of something said or done by a NASCAR driver.
Again, this is troubling.
NASCAR is fighting hard to rise above its Southern roots. But the drivers keep pulling it back into the briar patch. Hopefully this tangle of weeds will be gone one day.
Peace.
