Don’t look now but guess who’s charging like a run-a-way freight toward the NHRA’s Countdown to the Championship?

Fourteen-time Champion John Force entered the weekend tied for 13th after a win at Bristol last weekend, his first of the season.

He started today just 63 points behind Fast Jack Beckman in eighth, the cutoff point for the NHRA Countdown.

Then today he gets an unofficial 50 points on his way to a semi-final loss to Beckman to move into the top ten with four events left to qualify. The tournament starts at Indy.

This has been a stupidly difficult year for John. His daughter Ashley started racing Funny Cars. His close friend and team member Eric Medlen was killed in a terrible accident. There’s the TV show on A&E.
And I found out this weekend that one of John’s closest friends had a five way bypass just a couple days before Medlen was killed.

As if that wasn’t enough, John and his brain trust were having problems with his Mustang Hot Rod even failing to qualify for an event, a first in 20 seasons!

But John’s back. As if anyone thought he was gone!!
