What Car Do You Want Back?

I was in Car and Driver Magazine once before all of you were born. That’s why the brand can get my attention once in a while.

It did this week with a feature about 14 discontinued cars we wish still existed. Cars like the Viper, the Honda S2000, Chevy’s SSR, the Datsun 510, and the AMC Eagle of all things. Haven’t thought about that in a LONG time.

The Pontiac GTO wasn’t mentioned but I’d put it 15th on the list. I loved my GTO AND my Datsun 510s. All three of them. I wish I had time to tell you a story about the two that President Nixon snatched from me.

Car and Driver even put the Pontiac Aztek on the list. It’s one of the ugliest cars ever but make it electric today and tomorrow morning there’d be a line of buyers out the door.

I’m sure you have a list.

The problem today is the cost. The average price of a new car is nearly fifty thousand dollars. Car makers have excuses for that, but that price tag is the reason showrooms are empty and kids aren’t interested.

Where’s a 510 when you need one?
