This is the Statt Mann Baby. Time to Scatt a little bit.

Once again, a good motor race telecast on NBC. Sunday it was IMSA at Virginia International Raceway.

I think the largest nuance was the smaller field. IMSA can race with five classes at once including faster prototypes.

Sunday only two GT classes were on track. That made it possible for drivers to race instead of fighting to stay out of the way.

VIR is a technical track with lots of turning and braking. There was also lots of strategy and points racing with championships at stake approaching the end of the season.

And there was considerable attention given to the racing between the Ford Mustangs and Chevrolet Corvettes. Sunday the Mustangs got the best of it.

Fords were second and fourth in GTD Pro. The Corvettes were 13th and 15th suffering problems most of the afternoon.

I go back to the days when Chevy versus Ford was large. That’s different today but I still relate to the imagery. In fact, the Ford team includes a DTM champion. A European Le Mans champ, a Rolex 24 winner and an ALMS champion.

Pretty heady stuff to root for. They’re getting that GT3 program going in the right direction.

Peace.
