This is the Statt Mann Baby. Time to Scatt a little bit.

I usually ignore driver whining and complaints.

This week Kyle Larson posted a long piece on X about his frustrations with Social Media fans who find fault with Cup racing these days.
Kyle Larson Feat

The long and short of Larson’s missive was this. No one knows why Cup racing is bad. NASCAR, Goodyear, teams, the drivers. None of the partners have an answer.

But think on this for a moment. Spec racing like you find in NASCAR and IndyCar is generally a poor show.

The only ones who like it are the sponsors who want a chance to see their cars and brands in front. Sponsors don’t like it when they don’t get their brand on TV.

But that means every other partner is denied the chance to put his or her input on display. Engineers can’t engineer. Drivers can’t stretch envelopes and drive. Even the sanctioning bodies can’t sanction with enlightened rules.

Sponsors want a chance to win. They write the checks. Their word is final. So, how do you get along without sponsor money?

Think on that for a minute.

Peace.
