This is the Statt Mann Baby. Time to Scatt a little bit.

You might have missed this headline this week.

The Campbell’s Soup people have signed a marketing agreement with Harris Blitzer Sports and Entertainment. That includes Joe Gibbs Racing in NASCAR.

Last June Gibbs sold a minority piece of his NASCAR team to Josh Harris who owns the Washington Commanders in the NFL, Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA and the New Jersey Devils in the NHL among other things. And, yes, he’s the Harris in Harris Blitzer Sports and Entertainment.

The deal this week includes 16 brands under Campbell’s umbrella, including iconic names like Campbell’s Soup, Chunky soup and Goldfish. Activation plans weren’t announced. The release did say the deal was for more than a year.

Like I’ve been saying, NASCAR’s charter issues aren’t what’s important now. NASCAR sharing money with the teams isn’t the issue anymore either. The issue is business, making money, and if the teams aren’t prepared to be in business NASCAR will be a difficult place to be in the future.

Fighting NASCAR’s monopoly is a waste of money. Of course it’s a monopoly in stock car racing but not in business.

It’ll be a chunky road if you don’t understand the new soup to nuts model in the NASCAR garage going forward.

Peace.
