So let’s just think about a racing legend in the making for a little bit… Just how will Sebastian Bourdais be remembered in America?

• As winning his last race ever in Champ Car

• For winning Four Freakin’ Consecutive Championships… something no one else has done…

• For being another American series open wheel driver to jump ship for greener pastures (oh I hope not, but can you really blame him with the sad state of affairs?)

• Or for torturing Lugg Nuttz by being a genuinely nice Frenchman

Anyway, Sea Bass did win the Champ Car season finale on Sunday, below the border – Mexico City, for his last race ever in Champ Car, his American Open Wheel series of choice. He finished ahead of Will Power and Oriol Servia in somewhat of a snoozer, but then again, almost all of his wins were snoozers as he was just that dominant behind the wheel. One day we’ll be mentioning his name alongside Mario Andretti, Michael Schumacher, Rick Mears et al… wait, who are we kidding… we already ARE!  Best of luck to you moving forward, Sebastien… hopefully F1 will be a GOOD experience for ya!

FYI, we SpeedFreaks will have Mr. Bourdais on with us next Sunday, LIVE, for one of his last American interviews before moving to Europe. You will NOT want to miss his farewell interview… listen live on a station near you, Sirius channel 122 or live on the net at either speedfreaks.tv or www.sportsbyline.com

Again, Sunday night November 18 at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT

Speaking of open wheel defectors, they didn’t fare so well in Sunday’s ‘N’ Cup race* in Phoenix… ooh big surprise… Montoya 17th, Hornish 30th, Carpentier 33rd and Villeneuve 41st… though they all finished ahead of the over-hyped celebrity Dale Jr. and male fitness model Carl Edwards.

Winning the race, speaking of 4 in a row, was Jimmie Johnson… now all he has to do is finish 18th or better in Homestead and the championship is his. Heck even Jeff Gordon conceded the big Cup today by saying flat out, “It’s Over!” in his post-race interview. So, according to the one and only Jeff Gordon, I guess none of us have to watch Homestead next week… season is done, folks.

Other Phoenix winners were Kyle Busch – a double up win in both the Truck and Busch Series… and Jerry Coons Jr. in USAC, who also doubled up on the weekend. It was Coon’s Saturday win, though, that was one of the best come from behind, last place to first place wins in a long while! Maybe next time, though, ya might wanna line up for driver intros so you don’t have to come through the field.

Levi Jones captured the USAC Sprint Car championship on Friday with his 4th place finish… good on ya, Levi! For his audio from the SpeedFreaks Sunday show, click here.
