I was pleasantly surprised at the success Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Antron Brown had with his switch to Top Fuel this weekend in Pomona.

He was the top qualifier in the Wintenationals and was the only driver to qualifier under 4.5 seconds for the quartermile.

But Antron’s transition shouldn’t be a complete shock.  Motorcycle drag racers are actually part of the bike’s suspension when they head down the track.

To get his 16 wins on a motorcycle, Antron had to sense the bike’s movements and correct for the move almost before it happens.  Feeling what’s happening on the track is a skill that translates to Top Fuel.

Quick reactions in the lights are another.

Everyone was effusive in their praise of Antron’s performance this weekend.  Certainly he was happy when we talked the other night.  But he told me he’s aware of the need to do well on Sunday.

Antron’s wanted to be in a Top Fuel car for years.  He won’t waste this opportunity.
