This is the Statt Mann Baby!! Time to Scatt a little bit.
We talked last week about motor racing as entertainment.
Well, the Forbes list of the top 100 celebrities appeared this week apparently ignoring NASCAR’s reported 75 million fans. Instead it measured real things like earnings, Google hits, media mentions and magazine cover appearances.
Oprah Winfrey tops the list followed by Tiger Woods, Angelina Joie, Beyonce and David Beckham, the top five.
The first motor racer was Formula One defending champion Kimi Raikkonen at 36 followed by NASCAR star Jeff Gordon at 37 behind names like 50 Cent, Dr. Phil and Hannah Montana.
Former F1 champ Fernando Alonso was 43rd ahead of the name breathlessly in every American media mouth, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., who was at 52 out of the top 50. Dale’s 84th ranking in Google hits apparently did the damage.
To Gordon and Junior’s credit, no other American motor racing celebrities were on the list unless you count actor Patrick Dempsey who races part-time from the 84th gate in the Forbes list.
Argue, if you want, about who’s missing but here’s a big shut up to those who want to put you-know-who center stage when maybe they barely qualify for the celebrity chorus despite those 75 million fans, wherever they are.
Peace.
