This is the Statt Mann Baby!! Time to Scatt a little bit.
Of the twelve teams in NASCAR's Chase for the Sprint Cup there are only two Fords. That's got to be a source of complete frustration for Jack Roush, one of the most competitive men in NASCAR and owner of the unofficial Ford factory stock car team.
But is two out of 12 a disaster?
Ford has a presence in all forms of American motorsport, largely through it's Mustang brand. The Mustang is dominate in Grand Am KONI Challenge, has won races this year in World Challenge, the Ford engine has won in Grand-Am Rolex Daytona Prototype and even has a presence in such tuner realities as drifting and rallying.
Ford diversified and GM and Dodge didn't. GM and Dodge went bankrupt and Ford didn't. What's that tell you?
On top of everything, now Ford can attach the blue oval to Richard Petty. Richard Petty Motorsports will field four cars next year after taking over Yates Racing another Ford stock car presence.
Ironically, that means Kasey Kahne, a Richard Petty driver, will be in a Ford next year. Ford and Kahne were in a bitter law suit several years ago when Ford failed to offer Kahne a promised ride and Kasey bailed to Dodge.
Ford may only have two out of 12 in the Chase this year but Ford's overall diversification in motorsports means the pain won't be fatal on the racetrack or in the showroom.
Peace.
