I've been talking to people smarter than me about this Chevrolet to Indy Car deal and I'm coming away with as many questions as answers.
It's more than a great thing for Indy Car to have another manufacturer involved in the series. Honda had too much power in Indy Car. If Honda sneezed, Indy Car faced pneumonia. Honda supplied all the engines and probably most of the ancillary promotional money.
GM, now, will offset some of that power and potentially bring some of it back in house in Indianapolis. But why Chevrolet for GM's branding? I thought Chevrolet was for the Cruze and the Volt not 200 MPH at Indy.
I could see selling GM technology that would be used across the board at Cadillac, Buick and Corvette. I know Chevy's iconic racing history but that was before bankruptcies shut that company down.
It's more than great that an American company stepped up to support an American series. But here's another instance where the devil may end up in the details.
