This is the Statt Mann Baby. It's time to Scatt a little bit.

All weekend I’ve been amazed at the decorum displayed by NASCAR drivers in Richmond who snubbed their noses at the media and even assaulted one reporter not once but twice for asking a question they didn’t want to answer.

In fact after the Sprint Cup race when the Chase drivers gathered to talk to and generally confront reporters, Kurt Busch even grabbed one reporter’s notes and tore them up when she asked him a question he didn’t want to hear; after he lied about the truth she was seeking.

All this behavior came just a couple hours after the NASCAR Nation emotionally bowed a knee, wiped a tear and voiced allegiance to an idea that once reverenced a free press.

Maybe I’ve been wrong about NASCAR reflecting a Post 9/11 America. Maybe America’s first responders and its military died so all of us could deny reporters the freedom to ask questions and seek answers. Obviously they died so we could worship genetic anomalies who can do things we can’t. And obviously they died so millionaire bullies could prevent the pursuit of the truth.

Forget anniversaries, Twin Towers and wars and rumors of wars. Clearly NASCAR values reflect a post 9/11 America. Who needs a free press when lies, sarcasm and sheer strength can handle any question we can imagine?

Peace.
