This is the Statt Mann Baby. It's time to Scatt a little bit.

This is one of the greatest days in the sports junkie’s year. Selection Sunday for the NCAA tournament is an annual nirvana. It’s the gateway to March Madness, three of the greatest weeks in the sports year.

No matter what you think of motor racing you probably have a March Madness bracket nearby, phone numbers close to that and some money close to both.

It’s Madness, right? If you don’t know, ask somebody.

For the schools who may or may not get into the 68 team tournament, the so-called Bubble teams, these are finger biting times. Every year teams that should get in don’t and teams that should not be there do get into the tournament.

Teams that get to the Final Four one year may not even get into the tournament the next year. It’s a competition.

Bubble Teams in stock car racing, however, have been turned into a business model. You can make a good living by just getting into the race, starting, then going home with a big check. Who needs a Final Four if you can get paid after the second round of the tournament?!

This isn’t a slam of them. It’s good work if you can get it. But it’s the difference between qualifying for a tournament and casting a road show.

One’s a competition and the other, well, isn’t.

Peace.
