This is the Statt Mann Baby. It's time to Scatt a little bit.
Rhys Millen has maybe the most successful car ever created for sports car competition.
His Hyundai Genesis Coupe won the Pikes Peak Time Attack category in the hands of his father Rod last year. Weeks later Rhys used it to win the Formula Drift Las Vegas.
The car won the Pikes Peak Time Attack class again this year, on its way to winning the Hill Climb overall setting a record time in the process.
And Saturday the same car and chassis won the Las Vegas Formula Drift round. Again.
Curiously, the Hyundai beat a Porsche 911 full factory effort at Pikes Peak this year. They were in different classes but the Genesis Coupe won by seventeen-hundredths of a second anyway.
I’d have thought someone would have made more of it by now.
If you’re getting the idea that the car is Rhys Millen Racing’s only race machine, you’re right.
He told me the other day he’d like to retire it to start a personal Museum. But he has a chance to win his second Formula Drift title in about six weeks at Irwindale Speedway.
First things first I guess.
Peace.
