The Freaks were on hand for the start of the General Tire Mint 400 Saturday. I know Kenny is tired of me recalling the old days of off-road when little buggies went the fastest across the dirt and rocks.

This new technology in the trucks and V8 powered buggies only makes you shake your head. I’ve known for a long time that off-road technology far surpassed the racing world’s understanding of what’s going on out there.

People in NASCAR and IndyCar who hold their noses up at off-road only run the risk of having that nose filled with dirt.

You have no idea how impressive it is to watch a Trophy Truck with its 30 plus inches of rear wheel travel charge down a gravel road over yumps that make it appear the rear end has tumbled out from under the machine.

The monkey motion with the buggy suspensions is hypnotic. The speeds for both are just fascinating.

It’s funny to hear stock car drivers complain about being loose in and whatever. They can’t get the power to the ground. Off-road guys get more power to the ground on marbles that send stock cars flying.

Forget everything you knew about off-road racing. Your grand daddy’s off-road is home with him, in a rocker. This current off-road is as fresh as dance music.
