This is the Statt Mann, Baby. It’s time to Scatt a Little Bit…
I’ve been a race fan as long as I can remember. Until now.
Continued headlines challenge my very belief system in the sport.
Let’s not even talk about the safety issues. Racing is more dangerous than it should be. But drivers accept the risks, sadly. There’s a host of reasons why.
Yet, why spectators must take their life in their hands to watch is unconscionable.
But that’s not what troubles me most. A story this week says money was transferred from NASCAR officials to Chip Ganassi and Felix Sabates to get them started in Grand-Am a decade ago. And, according to the report, the deal guaranteed them a $400,000 annual profit to stay in business.
Supposedly that deal ended when former NASCAR chief Bill France, Jr. died. On the surface it’s just an unseemly story about business in America.
But when you see that Ganassi Racing won five championships during that decade you have to question all of it. I want to believe that every thing was done right on the track. I genuinely like Scott Pruett who was behind the wheel for those titles.
But is perception reality?
Watch the divorce proceedings involving Felix Sabates and his wife of 40 years, Carolyn.
It’s ugly. And it’s making an industry even uglier.
Peace.
