This is the Statt Mann, Baby. It’s time to Scatt a Little Bit…

Saturday night’s Supercross final at Anaheim 2 was the best reality television in months. Best of all, there was no script even though the results might have been considered at a script conference in some Hollywood studio.

Winner was Australian Chad Reed who hadn’t been to the top step of the podium in 720+ days.

He won it coming back from deep in the field on the first lap. He had to pass some of the fastest riders in Supercross history including former champions Ryan Villopoto and James Stewart. It was the Stewart pass that brought the Anaheim fans to their feet until they walked out.

Reed has two titles of his own so he’s not a backmarker even though he’s running his own program now and having to work harder to keep his head above sponsor waters.

Even the announcers upped their game for the telecast. It was a night that honored past champions including Jeff Emig and Ricky Carmicheal who were in the booth. They showed their championship form telling me something I wasn’t seeing on the track. Ralph Shaheen was just excellent as usual.

I really loved Stewart taking down Villopoto when Villopoto challenged Stewart’s lead midway through the race. The crash between Villopoto and Ryan Dungey on the last lap was just more drama to the show.

And we’re only three races into the Supercross season. So stay tuned… It’ll probably get better.

Peace.
