This is the Statt Mann, Baby. It’s time to Scatt a Little Bit…
I haven’t been able to keep close tabs on NHRA drag racing lately with the schedule I’ve had.
But I was able to watch the NHRA in New England Sunday and saw J.R. Todd continuing to do well with his Connie Kalitta ride in Top Fuel. He’d been out of drag racing for several years before joining Kalitta Racing in Las Vegas in March.
And J.R. certainly hasn’t lost any of his skill being on the sidelines. In only seven events before New Hampshire he managed to climb into the tenth spot in Top Fuel points. He added to the total with a round win in New Hampshire to climb the ladder further.
It was back in 2006 that Todd won in Denver to become the first African American to win a Top Fuel race. He added more event wins that year in Sonoma and Reading. So J.R. is more than a driver. He knows how to win and that can be a rare commodity in nitro drag racing.
Certainly he’s with a winner now. Kalitta Racing and Connie Kalitta win with speed, power and attitude. Todd indicated the crew there is happy with what he’s done since stepping into the trailer.
Sounds like a perfect match. I hope they can put together some history. They all deserve it.
Peace.
