Sunday’s Formula One race from Hungary produced great headlines going into the summer break. The largest, of course, was the brilliant drive to victory from Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo.

In the last five laps he passed two former F1 champions on the outside of turns to get the win. He’s won two of the last five races to move into third in points. Man I was wrong about him.

Second was two-time champion Fernando Alonso who finished the race on tires that were more than 30 laps old. And he nearly won the thing! That takes enormous skill but, like I said, he has two championships to show for it.

Third was 2008 champion Lewis Hamilton who started from pit lane, spun on a wet track, then drove to the podium. He could have won with a little luck.

But that’s just a piece of the story. While Hamilton was driving through the field, his teammate Nico Rosberg, F1 points leader over Hamilton by eleven points, came on the radio asking why Hamilton wasn’t pulling over so Rosberg could get through for more points. To his credit, Hamilton refused.

After the race Rosberg said the team would discuss it behind closed doors. It takes brass to get mad because the man you’re fighting for the title won’t pull for you.

You’ve got to love F1 arrogance.
