This is the Statt Mann, Baby. It’s time to Scatt a Little Bit…
A belated Happy Holidays to all of you. Without you none of this would be possible.
Which brings me to the official opening of the motor racing year, Supercross Anaheim 1, the first racing competition of the year in the United States.
The Dakar Rally started in Argentina on Saturday, a few hours before Supercross.
And as you’d expect, it was a fifth straight sell out in Anaheim. More than forty-five thousand paid their way into a baseball stadium to watch motorcycles race in circles.
Sounds crazy but it’s the show obviously. An evening of short races, exciting competition, lasers, fireworks driving music and noise. On one level it doesn’t matter who’s winning and losing. It’s the show to shake off the Holiday blues and blahs. At this point it’s tradition.
Feld Motorsports has the formula. You’d think others would follow the success pattern. Shorter races. Tight competition where every lap matters. Athletes trying to win instead of finish in the top 20. Entertainment when there’s nothing happening on the track. And it’s all over in time to catch a late dinner with someone special.
You’ve gotta love Supercross. Happy New Year everyone.
Peace.
