This is the Statt Mann Baby. Time to Scatt a little bit.
July 4th is one of my favorite days of the year. I love fireworks and Irwindale Speedway here in Southern California normally puts on a great show. And when you mix in a night of Saturday night racing, it’s like an entertainment doubleheader.
But let me tell you about last night. Irwindale is in the San Gabriel Valley east of downtown Los Angeles. Some 42 cities and communities surround the race track. And last night, you’d think all 42 put on some kind of fireworks show. Mix in the private backyard and drive way shows and you had one of the most incredible 4th of July scenes ever. Fireworks 360 for more than an hour.
The roof of the Irwindale media center and suites was surrounded by fireworks. You could even hear the explosions going off. There were shows in every city from Azusa to West Covina.
It was fascinating to see. 360 degrees of fireworks and that was while the late models were racing on the race track itself.
We were told the last time the track raced on an actual 4th of July was in 2009. As I remember there were fifteen or twenty shows visible then. Last night was an explosion of color. A show within a show with a show chaser. And then there were the races.
Happy Birthday America.
Peace.
