A Spectator’s Agony

Reading the Internet I’m often reminded why people look at the media with such cynicism.

A friend sent me a link to a piece on World Rally spectating and how difficult it is to watch an event.  So much was made about the elements, no scoreboard and no nearby beer stand, I assume.

It’s such a stereotype.  An American media member is uncomfortable outside a media center with climate controlled ambiance and access to free food and high definition television.

I’m an unapologetic fan of world championship rallying.  And so are nearly a half billion fans worldwide.

Missed, evidently, is the spectator as participant in a rally event.  You have to take part.  You can’t let it wash over you in a luxury box.  It’s even made easier these days with social media apps and the simple task of learning something then paying attention.

Lazy Americans I guess.  Funny how that works.  So tedious.
