This is the Statt Mann Baby. Time to Scatt a little bit.
I try to keep up with several drivers who’ve become friends over the past 16 years.
One is Billy Johnson who’s buried deep in the Ford camp at the moment. But while I was I was wringing my hands at his inability to climb into the spotlight I noticed he was leading the World Endurance Championship GT points.
That’s right, the only American in the Ford GT camp, is leading the WORLD Endurance GT points at the moment. That’s helped by driving the number 66 Ford GT to fourth at Le Mans last month.
Then a win in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge race Saturday at Mosport has him and teammate Scott Maxwell in a commanding lead in those season points.
I met Billy nearly ten years ago as a pimply face kid at Homestead. He was promising he’d be winning races and championships soon. Now he’s making good on the promise as one of the best GT drivers in the world.
World class cool.
Peace.
