This is the Statt Mann Baby. Time to Scatt a little bit.
Seventeen years to the day is incredible. SpeedFreaks has seen and experienced so much change in motor sports since 2000.
We’ve seen Honda go from Sport Compact drag racing to F1 with wins in the Indy 500.
F1 is no longer an expensive parade. Sunday’s crazy race included Red Flags and drivers attacking each other NASCAR-like with their cars. Teenagers are on the F1 podium and an American team is earning points in the F1 championship.
And crazier yet, one in five IndyCar drivers Sunday at Road America is a veteran from F1. That’s a REAL change!
We’ve seen NASCAR go from boring to unbearable. In fact, fans are showing displeasure by ignoring races at the track and on TV.
We’ve seen former NASCAR driver Robby Gordon become a successful race promoter and women become a force in American drag racing. But one thing that never changes: The people who run American rallying might be the dumbest in all of world motorsport. A painful admission for me.
Happy 17th!
Peace.
