This is the Stattmann Baby!!  Time to Scatt a little bit.

There’s a common denominator in sports car racing that says wins and losses aren’t always the sole property of a bank account.

Now it’s certainly true that the man who owns the car that won this weekend’s Rolex 24 at Daytona is very wealthy man with considerable resources.

But the people who fought him tooth and nail for 24 hours were often work a day people with the same passions for speed and sport.

One, in fact, qualified third and fought to finish in the top 25 despite an engineer who had the flu for 24 hours before the flag fell and an owner who didn’t get into racing until six years ago.

There were sportsmen at Daytona who’d never run a professional car race and somewhere they’re smiling about their finish today.

Racing isn’t money or autographs or political wars or PR people manipulating the process.

Racing is competition and drama and the people who are passionate about both.

There was plenty of that this weekend in Daytona and, from what I saw, lots of drivers and fans appreciated the break from reality.

Peace…
