Sadly, A Boring 24 Hours

Competition has long been more important to me than speed in a motor race. And because of that this weekend’s Le Mans 24 Hours was boring.

It won’t matter in the history books that there were only five Hypercars in the field when the green flag fell Saturday. And two of those were factory backed Toyotas.

So unsurprisingly Toyota won Sunday afternoon. At the end another Toyota Hypercar had its late charge halted by team orders to finish second.

The Porsches, Ferraris and Corvettes made a competitive show in GT. In fact, it was Ferrari, Corvette and Porsche, Porsche at the GTE Pro finish.

Corvette, in fact, faces problems. The GTLM category in IMSA is going away and Corvette says it doesn’t want to step back in class to run in the new GTD Pro class.

Sure would be nice to see a GM backed Corvette Hypercar competing for overall wins at Le Mans. But Corvette’s competitors are Ferrari and Porsche not Toyota. So, there’s drama at the end but that’s in a board room and not on the track.
