This is the Statt Mann Baby!! Time to Scatt a little bit.
Last night I heard Michael Waltrip compare his challenges this week to a flag being thrown in football or a whistle that reacts to a foul in basketball.
Let me get this straight: Waltrip not only had his car confiscated but he had two key members of his organization barred from the racetrack and given unprecedented fines for breaking NASCAR rules.
I’ve never heard of the coach and general manager being thrown out for a clipping penalty or goal tending!!
Michael Waltrip Racing has raised the bar for rules infractions in NASCAR. Even Toyota this week reportedly told its teams that the Waltrip organization has used two of the three strikes available for everyone else. Supposedly Toyota said any further problems might lead to the withdrawal of its factory support.
That’s a little heavier than pass interference or icing in hockey.
I can understand that Waltrip would like to move on from what happened this week, but to minimize the infractions only means NASCAR may not have made its point: don’t get CAUGHT breaking the rules!
Maybe the next penalties should shutter the doors at some race shop for a few races. How do you think a multi-million dollar sponsor would like that?
Peace.
