This is the Statt Mann Baby. It's time to Scatt a little bit!
Chip Ganassi’s race teams are doing unprecedented things in racing this year.
We heard a lot about him winning the Daytona 500, the Indy 500 and the Brickyard 400. No one's ever done that before in the same season.
But last weekend he also won at Watkins Glen twice with his Sprint Cup and Grand-Am Rolex teams and at Mid-Ohio with his Indy Car team.
The Grand-Am title is probably the only one he’ll win this year. His Indy Car and NASCAR teams don’t dominate like the team on the Rolex grid.
I met Chip more than 25 years ago when he was a new owner in CART. We sat on the top of a hauler in Phoenix and chatted about a number of things including his former driving career.
We laughed and talked off the record about how he wanted to eventually be as successful as Roger Penske the biggest name in American open-wheel.
Something told me he’d do it somehow.
Penske is reverred as a team owner in American Racing. But he's not feared as much anymore.
That role is falling to Chip Ganassi.
Maybe there's someone sitting on a hauler roof mapping out a plan to chase down Chip.
Peace.
