This is the Statt Mann Baby!! Time to Scatt a little bit.

Chasing championships is tedious.  Many great athletes never got the brass bling or the golden chalice of championship.

In the NBA, for example, Karl Malone missed out in Utah and came to Los Angeles only to miss out again.

When Dan Marino went to the Super Bowl XIX and lost to San Francisco, NFL fans were confident he’d get another shot but it never came for one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history.

Championships are the life blood of any professional athlete.  Some define the athlete.  For some athletes it’s the other way around, like Joe Namath defined Super Bowl III.

Now we have another athlete openly starting his vision quest.

You would think Earnhardt has the best chance for his first title now that he’s at Hendrick Motorsports.  But no one knows if Dale Earnhardt has the right stuff to be champion, not even Dale.  After all, it’s not a divine right.

Still, ever since he made the choice to leave DEI, his DEI teammate Martin Truex has a win and a third in the last two races.  Apparently DEI does know how to win.  Go figure.

When 50 cars show up and run within two seconds of each other, winning can be elusive no matter how much talent is on the table.

Let’s hope Dale Earnhardt, Jr. will define his championship – if it comes – instead of being defined by it, if it doesn’t.

Peace.
