Well, it was a very exciting weekend in racing (deciding the Superbike and Grand Am Sports Car Championships at the last minute of their last races), but it was also a very tough weekend in motorsports. First, we lost 4 extremely talented air pilots in the Reno Air Races, and then we lost one of the world's greatest drivers ever to have walked this earth, World Rally Champ Colin McRae.
Colin passed away in a helicopter crash on his property in Lanark, Scotland on Saturday. He was with his son and two friends.
I would like to write a tribute to Colin… something about the legend he was and how he was so good to others in the community and beyond… but since I only met him 3 or 4 times, I would LOVE your input as well. If you have a story you would like to share or just a comment about his life you would like to leave, please do so in one of the following ways…
1. Email me at CrashG@SpeedFreaks.TV
2. Leave a comment on my blog on my MyRacer page: crasher.member.MyRacer.com
3. Leave a comment on my blog on my MySpace page: MySpace.com/CrashGladys
Though I never knew him really well, he was ALWAYS so fun with me and there was just something special about him that makes this another hard pill to swallow. I truly miss him and know how much the racing community will forever miss him, too.
Thanks to all of you in advance for your help! I'll keep you posted when I get the tribute done. Until then, check this out, with comments from Sir Jackie Stewart, David Coulthard and Valentino Rossi's win tribute: Colin McRae 1968-2000
And oh yeah, check out our Freaks' interviews and tributes to him here, too… from our show on Sunday night: Colin McRae the Legend
Colin McRae – you will be forever loved and missed!
