This is the Statt Mann Baby. It’s time to Scatt a little bit.
I was watching a recent episode of the British Top Gear program this morning. Scottish singer Amy MacDonald was the Star in the Reasonably Priced Car. And her time was more than remarkable among the top 15 percent of all guest drivers.
The lap was reasoned and deliberate allowing for the great time.
Women often have the ability to be reasoned and deliberate. Certainly Danica Patrick was that today to get the Pole for next Sunday’s Daytona 500.
The lap was reasoned and deliberate, especially coming off Turn 4 at Daytona were the Fox on-screen tracker showed she made up gobs of time and got to be Top Qualifier this afternoon.
The question now, though, is whether Patrick can have the same reasoned and deliberate discipline with 42 other cars on the track during the race.
Throughout practice, Danica has shown the top chart speeds and she was expected to get the Pole today. It would have been an upset for it to go to someone else.
But any competitor, including Patrick, will tell you that practice, qualifying and the race are three very different realities.
Maybe Danica can be disciplined and reasoned next Sunday and really knock down the veil that separates her from another chapter in racing’s history books.
That’s assuming all of us, including Danica, can survive the media bleating between now and then.
Peace.
