This is the Stattmann Baby!! Time to Scatt a little bit.
As we reach the climax of March Madness, I had a conversation this week with 2004 USAC National Sprint Car champion Levi Jones.
He drives for Tony Stewart and opened the USAC season this weekend at Eldora Speedway, Stewart’s race track in Ohio.
Jones and I share some things. He came up with family and friends that had other interests and yet he found a passion for motorsports anyway.
And this is the March Madness Link. In a different world, Jones could have been a basketball player.
He was pretty good in high school once scoring more than 30 points in a game and led his team to a conference championship in his senior year.
Still, Levi Jones found his real Jones racing cars and he stuck with it until his National Championship came on a round track instead of with a round ball.
I have a theory that interested people are interesting. Jones fits that bill on both counts. Plus he likes to nap. Anyone who likes naps and wins Sprint Car championship is my hero.
Peace…
