You don’t have to be a rally fan to appreciate the legend building in the Sebastien Loeb pits at Citroen. His win this weekend in Spain turned around three straight problem events as Loeb battles for an unthinkable eighth consecutive World Rally Championship title.

“The end of the season was approaching and we were not doing well in the last three rallies,” Loeb said after his win south of Barcelona. “There was a puncture, a crash then we broke an engine so we were going the wrong way. Now to start again at zero this season with a victory, it’s a good start for the two last rallies.”

Actually the last event of the season is next month in Wales at Rally Great Britain.

This isn’t a guy holding on for a Top 20 or riding a sponsor’s needs to another payday. Loeb’s win gave Citroen its seventh manufacturer’s title. His success this weekend gave him the all-time record for stage wins.
