I don’t want to beat up on Kurt Busch while he’s down.  Were you ready for the pressures you faced when you were 27?

Friday afternoon while I was in Phoenix I saw some trouble on Kurt’s face.

He was surrounded by media making demands on his time and that can be troubling any time!!

It’s certainly troubling after the events of Friday night that led to the defending Nextel Cup champion being taken out of his car for the rest of the season.

But it’s especially troublesome when that champion driver – sponsored in part by a hard liquor company – is sidelined because of a stumble with alcohol.

Remember the campaign when he asked us to drink responsibly?

Maturity is elusive at any age.  And being a millionaire NASCAR driver doesn’t exempt Kurt Busch from stumbling around in the search for maturity.

Still, don’t blame the pressures he faces unless you plan on cutting the same break for stick-and-ball athletes who stumble in their search too.

(Editor's Note: At mid-week, Maricopa County Arizona law enforcement officers released information that indicated Kurt Bush, contrary to first reports, did take a sobriety test and passed it easily.  The report said Busch registered a 0.017 blood-alcohol level.  That is far below Arizona's impairment limit of 0.08.)
