This is the Statt Mann Baby. Time to scat a little bit.
I’ve been a long time fan of Grand-Am Road Racing. The competition has been phenomenal and even captivating at times.
Winners could come from as many as ten teams and that makes it interesting until the very end. Even today’s race at New Jersey wasn’t decided until the end when Alex Gurney passed Scott Pruett for the victory after a late flag.
That sound familiar? The same people who own NASCAR own Grand-Am so it appears some of the good and the bad are rubbing off.
One of the bad things in my mind is the absolutely brutal way drivers are going after each other and tearing up millions of dollars worth of equipment each race weekend. It looks good with guys going after each other on the track and in the pits but I’m not sure Saturday Night Lights is what sports car people want to see.
And NASCAR people just won’t accept Grand-Am road racing. Some have even told me they don’t like road racing because they can’t keep up all the turns.
What’s the answer? Not sure but what’s happened on the track in the last two races isn’t an answer to any question I’m asking.
Do we want sports car racing turned into NASCAR?
That’s a question you, the audience, has to answer for yourself. Personally I hope not.
Peace.
