Martin Truex Jr. wins the Dover NASCAR race today. Let me repeat that… yeah, some of you want me to relish in eating crow… Martin Truex Jr. just won the Dover NASCAR race, the Autism Speaks 400, today.
He lead 4 times as many laps in one day (today’s rain delayed race) as he had his entire Nextel Cup career… he continued to dominate on each and every restart… and he did it all with a team who has lost focus this year… yeah, give credit where credit is due.
I said on one of our ESPN2 TV shows in May that Martin Truex Jr. would be one of the bigger name drivers in the series who would never win. And I firmly believed that, too. I’ve seen nothing but cockiness out of Truex since his 2004 Busch Series Championship… all he does is parade around as the head of Dale Jr.’s DMP which apparently gives him the right to be a snobby SOB? From what I have witnessed, and collaborated with other media officials about, Martin tends to use NASCAR to elevate his popularity status instead of using it as a place to showcase his abilities… of which I didn’t think he had enough to show… until today.
Congrats Martin… you truly dominated the Dover race and deserve all the accolades for winning. You did have the ‘Eye of the Tiger’ after all… and I hope you can keep that momentum up, because you can be really good for this sport… attitude and all!
