This is the Statt Mann Baby. It’s time to Scatt a little bit.

You’ve got to love the 2013 edition of IndyCar racing. Today’s race from Brazil was filled with names like Sato, Newgarden and Hinchcliffe.

As the series heads to the Indy 500 it comes with storylines that include winners like James Hincliffe, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Takuma Sato and Hinchcliffe again today in Sao Paulo.

The usual suspects, Castroneves, Kanaan, Franchitti, Power and Dixon weren’t a factor at the end of the race today. They haven’t won a race yet this season. That’s a good thing in my opinion.

You could argue that 2012 champion Ryan Hunter-Reay isn’t a newcomer but he didn’t have a fulltime ride maybe three years ago. Believe me, he’s a relative newcomer to championship conversations.

Some other new names in the Top Ten IndyCar points include Justin Wilson, Simona De Silvestro and Charlie Kimball all following Sato in the points.

New names mean a new and extended fan base. It means new depth in the series and new television ratings.

We’re only four races into a nineteen race season but these new names aren’t a flash in the pan.

It’s even good to see the Andretti Autosport and Foyt Racing Teams being relevant. The Ganassi/Penske stranglehold on the championship needed to be challenged, frankly.

In all, a good start to what’s shaping up as a great season.

Peace.
