This is the Statt Mann, Baby. Time to Scatt a little bit…

Watching Saturday night’s ARCA race at Toledo Speedway was fascinating. You learn so much when you don’t care who wins and loses.

Oh, sure, I ended up cheering for someone as I was caught up in the drama of the moment. That happens in life when competition isn’t orchestrated or rules are designed for fan response when the competition ends. That’s where the money is made.

What was fascinating was watching one driver force another where he didn’t want to be on the track to take away an advantage. Sometimes that’s obvious. Most of the time it’s not.

But sometimes racecraft is taught by a spotter or coach and learned by a driver in real time. That’s wonderful. Try it sometimes. Don’t get caught up in the magician’s distractions. Watch and learn.

You’ll seldom learn nuance from television analysts. Usually they’re stars with gifted talents. They didn’t have to learn nuance. But nuance determines winners and losers in all competitions. Funny how that works

Peace.
