Well, I'm sort of sorry that I didn't get my Weekly One Stop Shop column up to you for the weekend racing results and gossip, BUT, it's because I'm already enthralled in the week-long activities of the Greatest Race in the History of the World… the Indy 500.
In case you missed the action from the weekend, however, lemme get you quickly caught up: Winners were Kevin Harvick (NASCAR Nextel All Star Race); thank you Jeg's fans as you voted Kenny Wallace into the race, too; Ricky Carmichael laid his typical smack down at the season MX opener in Hangtown; Indy 500 field was filled… sorry Jimmy Kite and PJ Jones didn't make it, but John Andretti, Al Unser Jr., Milka Duno and Phil "Don't Call me Keebler" Giebler were a success; NASCAR Truck winner in Charlotte was Ron Hornaday; ALMS overall winners in Utah were Indy 500's Ryan Briscoe & Sasha Maassen; Grand Am winners at Laguna Seca were Patrick Long & Jorg Bergmeister (both Sports Car races won by Porsches… is that a first in the same weekend?); MotoGP's rain soaked event went to Chris Vermeulen; AMA Superbikes in Sonoma to Mat Mladin (doin' the double); World of Outlaws wins were split to Donny Schatz and Steve Kinser.
OK, now that you are mostly caught up, stay tuned for my updates on the parties in Indy this week, hopefully some video and photos will be added, too!
Wednesday: Kenny Brack's band at Blu (playing a tribute to AJ Foyt and his 50 years at IMS), Jeans and Jewels at the Conrad Hotel (benefits the Benevolent Fund for Motorsports… check out their site: Benevolent Fund)
Thursday: Interviews galore at the track, USAC and the CARA Charities functions and then the RACER Party!!
Friday: Carb Day, Kid Rock, and the Limo to ALL the parties downtown
Saturday: Relax (if at all possible), then the Snakepit Ball and the 'Night Before the 500' Race at IRP… including the Silent Auction to Benefit injured USAC Champ Tracey Hines
Sunday: Get your ass up early and get to 16th and Georgetown for the Indy 500!!!! And plenty of parties afterward…
In the meantime, HELP ME!!!! Go to our SpeedFreaks Blog and help a sista out! Kenny has bagged on the Indy 500, calling it irrelevant… Lugg weighed in on our radio show Sunday night with some not so favorable comments… fortunately Statt Mann has his head on straight and agrees with me that no matter what the split in Open Wheel Racing has done to the sport in general, the event of Indy and the 500 is still the Greatest Spectacle in Racing…
