Before I get into any racing, let’s please talk first about the Southern California fires this past week. And may I ask that you please (if possible), PLEASE reach out and help our neighbors who have lost everything!

Believe it or not, during last week’s show, yours truly was not in the studio due to the Canyon Country fire and instead I was preparing to evacuate. Fortunately for me, all is well on the home front, but with how scared I was, I can’t imagine what the victims are now going through. Just like we did with Hurricane Katrina and the 2003 SoCal Fires, we are asking for you in the motorsports family to help out. So if you are able, please help by sending a donation to www.unitedwayla.org or even to our friends who have spent many sleepless nights helping homeowners, www.muttshack.org

Some key donators in the motorsports biz: Orange Show Speedway, Jimmie Johnson, Hendrick Racing, Toyota, Lowe’s Home Improvement, American Honda and I’m sure many anonymous others… thank you very much!

Back to racing…

NASCAR (Oops! I mean the ‘N’ series) was in Hot-Lanta this weekend… Kyle Busch was the victor in the Truck race and the generous Jimmie Johnson was your Nextel Cup winner (hey, didn’t I call Kyle Busch generous a week or so ago?) In Johnson’s case this week, remember he decided before the race began that he would donate his winnings to the relief efforts in SoCal… and if I’m not mistaken, Rick Hendrick, Lowe’s and NASCAR will all match his donation, too. NICE! Points-wise, with JJ’s win, and Jeff Gordon’s 7th place, only 9 points separate the two of them for the championship. But it really is just the two of them. As Lugg Nuttz said on this weekend’s show, it’s making NASCAR boring… and a bit of a pain in the ass to watch the JJ and JG show (what happened to the excitement of the Chase??)

The Busch group ran in Memphis – David Reutimann the winner there. But what about Marcos Ambrose’s SpeedFreaks Mojo… after appearing on our show a couple of weeks ago (audio here), he netted his best Busch finish yet! A 4th in Memphis! Good on ya, mate!

The NHRA raced their second to last event on the calendar in Las Vegas – and how about the hometown hero, Rod Fuller!! * “Hot Rod” not only won the Top Fuel event and massively beefed his points lead, but also won the Shootout and the extra double up money… nothing wrong with a $200,000 weekend (sadly that is big in drag racing). * Tony Pedregon was the only Funny Car guy in the Countdown to go rounds… and then he ended up winning the damn thing… so TP is way ahead in the points heading into Pomona. * Greg Anderson and Jeg Coughlin kept it tight in Pro Stock with both going to the final – Anderson the victor. Has Connolly been screwed by this Countdown to One… after winning the last 5 events? * And in the bikes, it was the same as those Pro Stock cars… numbers 1 & 2 in the points in the final… Andrew Hines then taking the win.

World Rally raced in Japan, and with the points contenders out (Sebastien Loeb and Marcus Gronholm), Mikko Hirvonen took the win. What a good teammate to Mr. Gronholm… atta boy!

Keep posted on the Jacques Villeneuve reports that he has bought majority interest in Bill Davis Racing… might he move the garages to Montreal? Nah…

Indy Pro Series driver Leilani Munter is one who tries to remove her carbon footprint on this Earth… she sure is setting a great example by purchasing an acre of endangered tropical rainforest for every race she runs in the Indy Pro Series moving forward… and she has already purchased two acres from World Land Trust thanks to the two races she ran in '07. If we all could be so good!
