This is the Statt Mann Baby!! Time to Scatt a little bit.
Two years ago the McLaren preseason test reports indicated Lewis Hamilton had the right stuff for the championship he won last year in Brazil.
But the reports this season indicate McLaren might be a ‘Roo short of a pouch when the green flag falls on the F1 season in Australia in two weeks.
In fact, this morning F1 analyst Ringmaster sent me an Internet piece saying the same thing; this year’s McLaren might be as bad as the cars that often went blammo in a hail of smoke and flames four years ago.
If that’s true, it’s no wonder. The brain and money drain at McLaren would cripple any team.
In the last five years McLaren has lost: brilliant designer Adrian Newey, three championships called Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen, brain trust Ron Dennis and the Ferrari Spy Scandal penalties of up to $100 million.
Now the team is in the hands of Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen who were predicted to be second bananas no matter how well they actually turned out.
Hamilton and Kovalainen still haven’t run 60 races between them, their experience is that limited.
What’s sad is that Hamilton may get the blame for what may be McLaren’s Perfect Storm this year.
I’ll be cheering he can row the boat ashore.
Peace.
