Beware drag racers… Serious electric competition is not only on its way, it’s here. A battery-powered 1972 Datsun ran an 11.8 second ¼ mile at 109 mph using lead acid batteries, and then ran an 11.4 second ¼ mile at 114 mph using lithium ion batteries!
John ‘Plasma Boy’ Wayland describes his car as an electric drill on steroids and claims it is the fastest electric drag car in the world. So far there’s no evidence against that claim.
The secret to its acceleration is the torque. An electric car gives maximum torque instantly, while a gas powered car has to build its torque.
And in formula car land, the same thing has been done in Europe where electric go karts have shocked the racing world with speed and reliability records.
So with all the doom and gloom of today's economy wearing on the progression of motorsports, let's just keep in the back of our minds, Freak Nation, that the REAL future of racing is electric!
