This is the Statt Mann baby! Let’s Scatt a little bit.
Even in motorsports there are some things greater than NASCAR and The Freaks witnessed one this weekend during the Night race at Bristol.
The race is a happening and not just a motor racing contest. People mill around the Bristol Motor Speedway grounds all day, HOURS before the green flag. It reminded me of a State Fair and not a car race.
They ate. Napped. Wandered around. Played games. Bought things. And all this was at 11 in the morning for a race that started at seven that evening.
People came from as far as Los Angeles. The plane coming back at six Sunday morning was full of Southern Californians who traveled 2000 miles to be a part of the event. I talked with one guy from Wisconsin who has four season tickets for Bristol Motor Speedway, a race track in Tennessee! And he never misses an event!
Being in Turn One watching 43 stock cars climb the Bristol Banking and nearly being drowned out by the 160,000-plus in the stands – many flashing cameras – well, put it this way:
When NASCAR dreams, it sees the Bristol Night Race in the mirror.
Peace!!!
