This is the Stattmann Baby!! Time to Scatt a little bit.
It was nice to see Petter Solberg win his second straight World Rally Championship event this weekend in Mexico.
The former world champion won in Sweden a couple weeks ago in the old Subaru WRX rally car. The win this weekend was in a new WRX proving it’s not always the car that generates wins in international competition.
The win also proves there’s racing and competition beyond the headlines.
It’s bad enough that stick and ball stories dominate the sports pages, especially as we enter March Madness here in the U.S. But when racing people only see circles we have a problem.
The Sport Compact cars in the WRC, the Speed World Challenge and the U.S. Touring Car Championship look like the cars we drive daily, like racing used to be.
And that competition is among real people. In the case of the WRC it’s even on real roads. The point? Boring competition is a boring way to spend a life.
There’s more out there if you look. But if you don’t care, there’ll be more for me to enjoy if you stay away.
Peace.
