Editor's Note: The following letters are examples of what The Freak Nation thinks about our topic this week: Trash Talking in NASCAR. Where do you stand on the issue? Let us know through email or through a vote in our poll!
I don't think trash talk belongs in racing, period. Sure it is in evey other sport in the world but racing is different and seperate from any other sport and it should remain that way. It is a classier sport where you don't use your mouth or your hot head to prove who and what you are. You use your skill on the track. Their is too much at stake with racing.

Hi guys:
Trash talk is just plain and simply " a fact of life" Quote (Tony Stewart), "they name streets after guys like that …. one way and dead end." Oh, and bye the way , Tony was right. As long as it is done intelligently I think it's cool. Then there is Robby Gordon with his comments about Michael Waltrip. Trash talk alright, but classless and it showed Robby's lack of self control and intelligence. Keep it clean have fun, and if you can get under the oter guys skin ….. good for you.
PS: cool show

Definately does not belong in NASCAR!!
Like Statman said about …driving a three inch car into a two inch hole at 200 mph, these drivers are much more talented than the stick and ball sport and should not bring themselves down to that level.
Listen to how well spoken the drivers and crews are compared to most football and basketball players. Trash talk is unsportsmanlike and takes away from the "family atmosphere" of the sport.
Children look up to sports figures and often immate them. Racing is competitive but clean. Look at the poor examples from baseball and football with drug & domestic problems. Basketball even had fights that carried into the stands. That is not what I want my children to see.
Drivers also represent the sponsors and generate brand loyalty. Trash talk detracts from the loyalty also.
Drivers should resolve the anger like Tony and Mark did last week.
Lets keep the competition on the track and keep the sport positive.
Hey Tony, how about a trip to Long Island New York? We need some real press around here!!
Keep it in the top five this week and keep Jimmy behind in the points!!
In the spirit of the sport…..

I personally hold NASCAR drivers to a higher level of moral than any other professional athlete. It would be an insult to what this sport stands for for guys to go talkin about the other guys before a race starts just to try and get inside their heads… but… after you’ve been takin out by somebody else, for that afternoon, it’s fair game.

NASCAR should welcome trash talk in my opinion. I think gamesmanship should always be welcome. It would give people another reason to watch NASCAR, which could possibly boost their ratings. I love hearing trash talk, and I think a lot of other people do too.
